TOP 2021 SPECIALISTS
We introduced the top 2021 specialists early at College Football Today and I was extremely impressed with the leg strength, as well as ball placement that top 2021 P/K Shelby Pruett displayed in his workout footage. He has been consistently working hard to improve in areas needed and I foresee a big season ahead for top 2021 P/K recruit Shelby Pruett. He was able to win the Aussie "Big Ball" competition with a 56 yard boot from the LOS, which had a very impressive 4.5 hang time at the Kohl's kicking camp. Shelby was also able to chart very well on the day and boomed a 60 yard punt, with a 4.5 hang time and is beginning to become a well-known punter recruit throughout the world of College Football Today.
TOP 2021 PUNTERS
Top 2021 punters should show the progression, consistency and overall potential that Pruett has demonstrated throughout his rigorous training process. Shelby has a good amount of training videos that are posted to YouTube and can be found by clicking HERE, as his hard work is paying large dividends as a top 2021 punter recruit. Shelby has been developing more consistency with his drop and is able to hit beautiful "Coffin Corner" punts, while using a rugby style approach. While having been both a punter and a return man in high school, these abstract knuckle balls are extremely hard to field and when properly placed, very easy for the punt team to cover. TOP PUNTERS
Having been around hundreds of top punters throughout my career, I have learned there really is no ceiling with minor adjustments in technique and many do it more than one way. After studying legendary punters like Sean Landeta and more recently Sam Koch, I simply realized there will always be differences in how to kick a football effectively and what a Special Teams coach like Joe Marciano desires. It all comes down to schematics, as punters like Jeff Feagles were marksman at placing the football perfectly out of bounds for no return. Keeping the football out of the best athletes hands on the football field would be my main philosophy, as return men are normally the best overall athletes on the gridiron. Giving your team an advantage in this area normally produces wins in the field position battle and Shelby Pruett will prove to do just that in 2020 & beyond. The Rugby style punt didn't really exist when I was coming out of High School and just began developing through dynamic NFL field position marksman, as Sam Koch literally has a hundred different ways to make a ball turn.
