I got the pleasure to interview Ronald Ollie of the hit Netflix series "Last Chance U", it was a clear picture of who this young man is and his current situation. Ronald has been through a ton of adversity and we were able to overcome even more with the cell phone service as I get him back at around 5:15. Ronald decided to leave Nichols State for various reasons and is currently pursuing using his red-shirt year to fulfill the eligibility requirements enforced by the NCAA for transfers. Then he will have one year remaining on the football field at the FBS level. Ollie never wanted the attention at such a young age that the series produced, and was unaware of the filming that was going to be done. My question becomes what kind of waiver was used to use the actual likeness of these young men to profit for EMCC and Netflix? I watched a young man get a diagnosed concussion on the field and was berated by his Head Coach, saying that he was faking the concussion. How a man like this can get a 10th year destroying young men emotionally is beyond me, but let's get back to Ollie. He kept a smile on his face and maintained a positive attitude, which surely must have been difficult. Keeping players like Ollie engaged is not a hard task and it does not take belittling. It takes some compassion and understanding to accomplish maximum results, as well as keeping the game fun. All in all, Ollie has a big heart and is a great football player. He has battled through adversity time after time and would like one more chance to prove he belongs at the highest level of College Football. If he is rejected this year, we will formulate a new plan of attack at the Pro Football level. As I told Ollie, this dream is only over when you want it to be and to keep being as competitive as you can as "The Cream Shall Rise to the Top".
