Fortune favors the bold and it is the cave that you fear, that will hold the treasure that you desire.
It is time to fly like the eagle you are, or do you want to continue to cluck with the chickens?
Control what you can control
There comes a point and time where we must realize our best options to obtain a College Scholarship are all buried inside of each and everyone of us. You have to realize the battle you fight is often between your ears and the only way to win those battles is to enhance your thinking, while "flipping your focus". This task is not easy and can take years for some to master. When I spoke about "Defining our Process", I broke down the human brain and how we control every cell in our bodies, using our mental abilities.
"The Athletic Brain'. "First of all, mental processes that need to be taken into account for top performance accomplishment in sports are, for example, motivation, selective attention, goal setting, working memory and decision making. All these processes also happen “between our ears” – in the command center in our head – and contribute to our performance in various ways." What is most important to take out of all of this to me is, YOU ARE IN CONTROL! Your coach is in control of his team, but not your motivation, selective attention, your goal setting, your working memory and your decision making, which only you can fully control. All of these qualities that relate to the human "athletic" brain can be trained just like your at the gym. You can choose what to fully absorb coaching wise and what to politely nod your head to, while the yelling and screaming goes in one ear and out the other. Football is the ultimate team sport and teaches young men how to work as unit and be reliable to one another, just like in most work places and/or even our beloved military. But as I always say, recruiting is about the INDIVIDUAL athlete and his or her attainable goals. Yes, you will be plugged into a even more "TEAM" atmosphere in college, but to get to that elite level, separation is a MUST!
RISE AND GRIND
The mind set of my athletes is simple, BE GREAT EVERYDAY, IN EVERYTHING WE DO! Why is this imperative? Why can't we be crappy people like some of the players on TV playing in the big time? Why can't we skip class and go carouse around town with friends? Well, your creating separation in a negative way, as far as your recruiting goes. See college life has a lot of freedoms and waking up and getting to class is one of them, not one person will make you (Unless they really care, Thanks Coach Eger). You have to develop some discipline NOW, or you will lose that coveted scholarship just as fast as you obtained it. There usually is a school willing to give you another shot, but rolling the dice this late in the game is not advised. I expect ALL my junior college players to be outstanding citizens on and off the field, while excelling in the classroom. If you have not learned by now, players that have bad grades/scores 99% of the time end up at a JUCO/Prep school. As I explain in my first two recruiting 101 articles, which I am linking below, half of the recruits in America come out of 4 states! So it is vital to get your name out EARLY and OFTEN, to ensure you get the proper exposure to get where you want to be and separate yourself from the pack.
Why Not ME?
As our athletes prepare for our upcoming regional combines, I want you to reflect on your mistakes and I want you to find solutions to make these weaknesses your strengths. You were each born in a particular special way and all have special attributes that CAN and WILL contribute to society in a valuable fashion. I am sure most of you have already made up your mind and are dedicated to committing to "The Process" and dominating those who oppose. In today's world we must realize the only people trying to throw us off of our processes, are those who want to see us fail. When you enroll in a program such as my "Pipeline Program", I want you to ask yourself every single day, WHY NOT ME? Then I want you figure out how to make it happen by continuously seeking mentors on the field/classroom and in life. Be a "Mindful Athlete" and watch how your game evolves. Have you ever heard the great athletes speak of the game "slowing down"? You can only do this by mastering the most complex organ known to man, the human brain. I want to thank all the athletes that have registered early for our camps, as it is greatly appreciated to maintain proper scouting materials for the College coaching staffs. It also helps me prepare for the style of camp I am going to run. Most of the guys in my program can ALL play football at a very high level from evaluating film, but so can the guy a few states over. What has already separated you is the fact they know who you are and now it's time to make your name known! As lions, we are entitled to nothing, we build and create and take what we want. We bend the world to our will and we keep what we KILL! See you at mini-camp, young BEASTS!
