Jauwon Phillips is known for bringing the All-Madden "Hit Stick", when coming downhill as a Safety, as seen on the first play of his highlight's above. With a perfect looking back pedal and extreme athletic prowess, this Ed Reed prototype can be seen making a "high-pointing" interception, after aligning himself in perfect positioning to make a huge play. Lined up on the slot on the 3rd play, Phillips can be seen fighting through the blocking receiver, on his way to a tackle for a loss. Jauwon is able to flip his hips extremely quickly, when needing to take the proper angle, to cut off the receivers route. With great overall ball instincts, this young man is able to play effectively in the box and tracks the ball very well, in order to make the tough interceptions, as seen at 1:20 into his highlight's. Teams really tried to stay away from this lock-down defensive back this season, but he was still able to make game changing plays and catch the eye of the likes of Michigan. Phillips was a transfer this season to Mae Jemison and showed great adaptability to be able to contribute at such a high level for his team. I am excited that he has accepted his invitation as a Scout Trout All-American, as we add yet another outstanding Student-Athlete from the great state of Alabama!
