Jalen Simmons is a ball of lighting on the football field and is able to create separation instantly, all throughout this All-American highlight. Using great technique and quickness off the line of scrimmage, Jalen burns his defender in whatever destination the route requires. Jalen is able to score on press coverage shown in the first two plays of his film, catching a beautiful fade and a very deceptive quick slant for touchdowns. On the third play, Jalen shows his ability to run after the catch and gets downfield through traffic to fight his way for a score. Jalen can also take the top off a defense, as seen on the next play of his highlights, where he is able to make a great "high pointing" catch, on a slightly under thrown ball. Mr.Simmons is a very keen wide receiver, who knows how to work to the open spots of the field, while his Quarterback is under duress, to create throwing lanes that equate to big plays downfield. I wouldn't qualify Jalen as a "Possession receiver", but he is able to hold onto the ball in heavy traffic, after hauling in dimes from his Quarterback. At 2:30 into Jalen's highlights, you will witness a beautiful "back shoulder" throw and catch, as Jalen once again leaps over a defender to make a beautiful snag for a touchdown. Simmons is excellent on screen plays and gets the ball moving downfield in a hurry, with great vision and acceleration. Jalen shows amazing concentration starting at 3:35 seconds and is able to hold onto the ball, after taking a massive hit. The very next play, the ball appears to be tipped in traffic and Jalen is able to quickly grab the ball out of the air, to make a big play for his team and avoid a costly turnover. He shows very good ability in his run blocking and is able to turn the defenders in the proper direction, per play design. Jalen Simmons has a 3.7 GPA and a great test score and his play on the field has exemplified that of a Scout Trout All-American!
