Jones comes to Scout Trout from Mt. Tabor high school in Winston Salem, NC and has the athletics and academics to garner him an initial national ranking at #13 in our athlete rankings. Our athlete category is bedazzling when you turn on the best America has to offer thus far, and Jones has the ability to move up our rankings if he maintains the progression rate he has shown so far. The ability to make an immediate impact on special teams is big for college recruiters and coaches, as many prospects will either "redshirt" or start as a backup player upon arrival at their first summer camp. Jones not only exhibits superior special teams play, but has the grit and determination to succeed overall in our beloved game. On the opening play of Dashawntreas' highlights, you will witness his amazing 4.5 speed and outstanding acceleration out of the slot position. Jones is able accelerate so quickly off the snap that he leaves the defender assigned to him in man-to-man coverage completely in the dust. Accelerating at this level is the quickest way to EXPOSE an inferior defender and create separation in man-to-man coverage. The QB does a wonderful job in getting the ball to Jones as soon as he is about to clear the defender, as he does not have the "hip-flexion" to be able to stay with this young race horse. As you will see, when you hit this young man in stride, it is off to the races, and there are not too many in America that are going to catch this resilient athlete. I would also like to note that Jones has a very fluent and natural running style that translates to getting even faster in the near future. He is an animal on special teams and once again shows off his speed and acceleration as he makes a beautiful tackle after darting down field like a screaming banshee. Watching Jones fly down field and the hustle he shows on kickoff and kickoff return, make me believe he could be a very valuable DB at the next level, as he has superior tackling skills. Lined back up at Receiver at 1:16 into All-American highlights, Jones exhibits stellar blocking ability as an outside receiver and shows great skills in close hand-to-hand combat, as he is able to control his opponent turning him to the inside for his teams ball carrier. You will witness an even better block on the next play, as the defender knows it is a run and Jones is able to put him "ON SKATES" and drives him back into the end-zone. Showing the ability to finish blocks at this age for a receiver/athlete prospect tells me this young man is a complete receiver for the next level and can line up at slot or on the outside. With his exceptional blocking skills Jones is able to create a outstanding disillusion in play action, as you will see on the next play. When the QB fakes the "zone-option" play, defenders are going to be flying up in order to avoid being driven against their will to whatever destination Jones chooses. Jones then is able to use his extreme quickness, acceleration and speed to blow past defenders en-route to completely toast the defenders assigned to him. Lined up at the Corner position at 1:44 into his footage, Jones plays man-to-man coverage precisely and is able to stay in the receivers hip pocket, using A+ "Hip Flexion" to flip his body into position and then is able to wonderfully locate the football at its highest point of flight, using a great vertical leap to break up the pass. The next play shows me this young man NEVER takes a play off, as he is on the opposite side and is able to PANCAKE his defender directly on his back, once again showing superior hand placement and overall football skill to get the job done. On the final play of his Scout Trout All-American highlights, Dashawntreas shows an uncanny ability and football IQ in his ability to work back to the open area of the football field, as he notices his QB is under duress to make a great play for a touchdown. Overall, with a 3.25 GPA and 20 ACT score, Jones exhibits all of the characteristics of a big time college football player and with more fine tuning to his already spectacular skill set, he will be among the ELITE when his high school career comes to its conclusion and his journey into the world of college football begins! Congrats on securing your Scout Trout Class of 2019 All-American Bowl nomination and we our extremely excited to add you to our already star studded roster!
