Jimmy Bates Had 15 carries for 62 yards and a TOuchdown, along with around 5 tackles and HE caused a big fumble on special teams!Scout Trout's Key Contributor of the Week![]()
Jimmy showed everything he is capable of in his first game of the regular season and had one of the best special teams plays on kickoff for week one, as he beamed down field with his 4.4 speed to make a vicious hit on the return man. This play was able to set the tone for Vancleave as they were able to score two plays later and won their first game 45-14 over Forest County Agricultural High School. Jimmy operated extremely well on offense at the FB/H-Back position and set the tone in the running game for the Vancleave offense. I was more impressed with Jimmy's blocking ability on power plays, as he was able to show off his hulk-like strength in pummeling the defensive ends to the turf. His work ethic the past two off-seasons has been second to none, as I have watched Jimmy grow into one of the best athletes in all of the nation since we first met at my first Scout Trout All-American Bowl (mini-camp). When I moved down south and got to work with Jimmy more, I realized his skill-set is so unique that it could often go missed if not utilized in the proper scheme. That being said, Jimmy Bates is in his natural position on the football field when you see what he brings to an offense or defense. He has some of the best hands and coordination I have seen in a player at the H-Back position and now proved he can also be the hammer needed in a power style attack. I am extremely proud of Jimmy Bates and the Vancleave Football team for finding a way to get better and bouncing back from a losing season with a huge opening victory in state of Mississippi play!

He also has reminded me of many other great NFL players, which is why he is in our ATHLETE database. Jimmy is a plug and pull player, meaning you can plug him into multiple positions and he will succeed almost immediately. He possesses the ability to learn new concepts rapidly and can instantly put them into practice on the gridiron. I have not been wrong yet on this particular skill-set in a American Football player and in my professional opinion, he has the potential to be a high impact player at the D1 College Football level.
