2019 Center Recruit 6'2,250LB Hayden Ray is playing a lot like my dads old long snapper Mike Webster up front
What does it take to be an elite center at the next level? My father David Trout had the privilege to play with two of the all-time best centers according to the NFL Hall of Fame. Bart Oates, who was 6'3,265LBS, bolstered the USFL champion Philadelphia Stars and helped bring the city championships long before the beloved Philadelphia Eagles. Mike Webster, who was enshrined into the Hall of Fame in 1997, was my fathers long snapper and is still known as the greatest Center of all-time in many's opinion. He stood 6'1,255lbs and was known for his superior strength and leadership up front for the 4X Super Champions, Pittsburgh Steelers.
2019 C Recruit Hayden Ray makes phenomenal short snaps and delivers quick, efficient and technical pancake blocks
When I watch Hayden Ray deliver perfect snaps and watch how quickly he is able to engage, while driving his opponent for a pancake block, I am reminded of Hall of Fame Steelers Center Mike Webster. With Ray being around the same size as Webby and having the ability to get off the ball so quickly, he proves to be an elite 2019 OL recruit out of Addison High School in Alabama. In the footage below on the very first play, Ray is able to ideally deliver the shotgun snap at shoulder height to the throwing arm side of top 2019 QB/ATH recruit Zayne Guthrie and get under the nose tackle almost instantaneously to achieve proper leverage to turn his defender, which is followed by a beautiful execution of a pancake block. On the next play, you will see another perfect snap and Hayden drive his defender forward to the turf once again, completely taking the nose tackle out of the play. Ray has very good athletics for a 2019 C recruit and they are displayed on the third play, when you get to see Guthrie and Ray execute a well-designed backside screen. Ray is able to get out in front of the receiver and drive his man perfectly out of bounds, once again using stellar overall technique to pummel his opponent. He proves to be a very good defensive end, as he holds the edge very well on the next play, but the incredible surge these young men are able to get up front is a big reason that Addison High School, AL is 5-1 this season and looking to make a deep run in the Alabama State playoffs.
