Player notes - Top 2021 RB recruit Romelo Portillo is a very powerful downhill runner, who is extremely good at following his blockers and chewing up yardage for the Holy Cross HS offense. Portillo is not afraid to lower his shoulder and plow through defenders, as he could also be utilized as a fullback in the triple option scheme with his powerful style of running. He is very adept at producing yards after contact and has been on our Top 2021 RB recruit rankings at College Football Today. 2021 ALL-AMERICAN RB
College Football Today & ESPN Plus 2021 All-American RB Romelo Portillo put in an immense amount of work last off-season and drastically improved his footwork, as well as his overall speed and agility. I have been following his progress for about 2 and half years now, while keeping a close eye on the overlooked recruiting region of South Texas. The first team All-District running back is one of the best downhill runners I have watched on tape and developed the (WB) wiggle/burst needed to be a consistent chain mover, as well as every down back in the world of College Football Today. Romelo can fit any offensive scheme that is ran at the next level and could even line up as the B-Back, which is a glorified fullback in the triple-option scheme and is relied on to be able to consistently pick up at least 2 to 3 yards at a time. Much like the 16th ball carrier ever to break 1,000 yards rushing in Georgia Tech history 5'9,207 pound KirVonte Benson. These types of brutalizing ball carriers tend to where a defense over four quarters and have the capabilities to skedaddle away from defenders in the open field for huge chucks of yardage. Standing around 5'8,195, Portillo fits the mold of an NFL caliber powerful running back, who has the physical frame to carry the football 30+ times a game for the duration of a 16 game season. Having already evaluated Top 2021 NFL Draft RB prospects, he honestly fits the dynamic skill-set that all 32 teams are looking for in this year's 2021 NFL Draft. Given the fact that Romelo is only a senior in high school and will have at least four years to develop in a college football program, he is certainly one that NFL executives and I will be keeping an eye on for future NFL Draft classes.
TOP 2021 RB RECRUIT RANKINGS
2021 All-American RB Romelo Portillo is featured on the CFT Top 2021 RB recruit rankings and will be moving up the board, as I have never heard of a high school running earning a professional football contract in my 20+ years of being in the game of American football. I have honestly lost track of how many CFB offers Romelo has earned, but it is surely All-American Bowl worthy and I am excited to watch him play his final HS football game in San Antonio, Texas.
2021 ALL-AMERICAN BOWL
College Football Today, Rokfin & ESPN Plus 2021 HS Football All-American Bowl will kicked off on February 13th, 2021 and Team North was crowed victorious by a score of 40 to 0 in the fourth Scout Trout Elite All-American Bowl game event.
